SCC Breaks Ground On $32 Million Technology Center

By Tom Stanton Mar 22, 2023 | 2:27 PM

Ground was broken Wednesday morning on the Sandhills Global Technology Center on the Southeast Community College campus in Lincoln.  Sandhills Global is an information technology company headquartered in Lincoln and made a $5 million gift toward construction of the facility, the donation is the largest in the College’s history.

The 75,000 square foot building will house four programs, information technology, electronics, biotechnology and design and drafting technology.  “This transformative initiative presents a critical step to address Nebraska’s skilled workforce shortage,” says Arlyn Uhrmacher, vice chair of the Board of Govnernors.”

“Some of the highlights of the project include a full scale data center, a cyber security center, a creativity center space that combines computer and electronic technologies,” says SCC President Dr. Paul Illich.    Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird says the City allocated more than $4 million in American Rescue Plan Act money to SCC to support the creation of the technology center.

“This investment also reflects our commitment to the value SCC provides to our community everyday and to the hands on education that will soon take place inside the walls of this new tech center, Gaylor Baird says.”

The facility is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2024 Fall Semester.
