City Planning Department Seeks To Annex 445 Acres Of Southeast Lincoln

By Chase Porter Mar 20, 2023 | 7:19 PM

The Lincoln City Planning Department has filed an application to annex approximately 445 acres, more or less, on property located between 70th and Pine Lake and 84th and Yankee Hill, Lancaster County, Nebraska.

Director of Lincoln City Planning, David Cary defended city services in regards to concerns raised by south east Lincoln residents who oppose the move, “I will be unabashedly positive about the level of service that we provide to the entire area of the city…I am extremely confident in all of our different levels of service including Lincoln Transportation & Utilities, LFR and their services, LPD. The level of service that they’ll get from the city of
Lincoln will be top notch.”

Citizens of South East Lincoln spoke in opposition to the proposal, often queuing on lack of infrastructure, inconsistency in city ordinances, and availability of city services. Assistant Chief Of South East Rural Fire and Rescue, Jeremy Quist, “The crux of [my] issue is the area to be annexed does not have fire hydrants. The city does not currently have water tankers or any off-road vehicles. It would seem that the city shouldn’t annex anything that they don’t have the equipment to take care of.”

Most of the area proposed to be annexed is already surrounded by city property.
