Lincoln Police have arrested a 24-year-old man after they say he pointed a gun on another man during a traffic dispute last Friday. Captain Todd Kocian says it began around 8:30 p.m. near 8th and P Streets when a 23 year old man was dropping his girlfriend off.
He says another vehicle pulled up behind him and the driver began honking the horn and yelling at him. “The victim told the other driver to be patient as he was waiting for his girlfriend to get into her vehicle and drive away,” Kocian says. “The other vehicle then pulled alongside him and the driver pointed what he described as a black revolver style handgun at him.”
Kocian says the driver was later identified as Riley Scott. Around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday the Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force saw Scott leaving a home near 32 & R Street. Officers got out of their cruisers and Scott fled on foot. ” As he fled, officers observed Scott reach for something in his waistband, discard a towel and then was holding something in his right hand,” Kocian says.
During the foot chase Kocian says Scott fell over a small chain link fence. “As he fell, officers heard what sounded like a metal object hit and slide over the ground.” After a short struggle Scott was taken into custody.
Officers found a Taurus 9mm handgun that was stolen last October near 48 & Huntington. Officers also located three syringes containing meth residue. Scott was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, terroristic threats and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. He was also cited and released for obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest.
