An inmate who escaped from the Work Ethic Camp in McCook last month was arrested in Lincoln late Monday morning. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the Metro Fugitive Task Force found Ronald Grant inside a home near 8th and Garfield.

“He escaped February 12 and we have been actively looking for him since then,” Houchin says.  The task force surrounded the house just before 11:00 a.m. and Houchin says Grant barricaded himself in the basement.

He says after negotiating for about 30 minutes Grant came upstairs and surrendered without incident.  “We had obtained information that he possibly had weapons and that he had been claiming that he was not going to go back. So, this was a good catch,”  Houchin says.

Houchin says no weapons were found.  Grant escaped from the Work Ethic Camp parking lot as he was emptying trash with a staff member and two other inmates.  In 2005  grant began a 29 to 44 year sentence for charges out of Lancaster County that include manslaughter, assault by a confined person and felon in possession of a deadly weapon.

He has a parole hearing scheduled for July 2023 and a tentative release date of November 18, 2029.
