Lincoln Man Shot To Death In Fonner Park Barn

A Lincoln man was shot to death inside a horse stables barn at Fonner Park Thursday morning. Grand Island Police were called to investigate an unconscious man around 10:00 a.m.

Grand Island Police Captain Dean Elliot told KLIN News, Police found 62 year old Todd Scherer dead from a gunshot wound inside a tack room. Police say were able to quickly identify a suspect with the help of witnesses in the horse community and law enforcement partners.

They found 20 year old Logan Horse Hunts of Wounded Knee, South Dakota asleep in different tack room in the same barn. He was identified with evidence of the crime and was booked for homicide, robbery, and assault. Overnight police investigation lead to a second arrest, 16 year old Austin Kelly of Grand Island. Kelly was arrested and booked for robbery, accessory to 1st degree murder, and accessory to use a weapon to commit a felony in Hall County Jail Thursday night.

So far in the investigation, the suspects appear to have been acquaintances of Scherer. Unknown to what degree, but it is not suspected to be a random attack. There was property stolen from Scherer that was recovered away the scene, investigation continues on any more property that may have been taken.

A gun and baseball bat have been collected as evidence, but further testing is required to confirm relation to the crime.
