The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department says a 13-year-old was cited on Monday for setting a trash can on fire in a Raymond Central High School restroom.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says around 9:30 a.m. a teacher was walking down a hallway and smelled smoke coming from the boy’s restroom. “She grabs the trashcan that had been lit on fire and runs it out of the school.”
Houchin says the principal then grabbed the trash can and it took it further away from the school where it burned itself out. Houchin says they soon learned who started the fire. “Through the camera system there is a 13 year old student who exits a science room, goes into that bathroom and a few seconds after that runs out.”
Moments later Houchin says the teacher spotted the fire. There was not other damage to the school. The 13-year-old was cited and released to his parents for first-degree arson.
