The Nebraska baseball season is finally upon us, but the first game was a loss for the third year in a row.
The Huskers stranded 11 runners on the night and only managed three runs on five hits. San Diego put together 10 hits, leading to seven runs and the 7-3 victory.
The game was tied 2-2 through five innings, but the Teroros posted a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings. After Nebraska pulled within one in top of the eighth, USD plated three in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Emmett Olson spun 5.1 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five. Michael Garza, Corbin Hawkins, and Will Rizzo finished out the final 2.2 innings in relief.
Brice Matthews had the best day at the plate for NU, going 2-for-4 and knocking in two RBI. Garrett Anglim also went 2-for-4, brining in the only other run.
Nebraska and San Diego play again Saturday at 7 p.m. CST.
