Lincoln Man Convicted of Possessing Child Pornography

By Michael Wheeler Feb 17, 2023 | 1:54 PM

John Burton, 66, of Lincoln was convicted in Federal court Wednesday of possessing child pornography following a jury trial. Burton had a prior conviction in Missouri of sexually assaulting a child under 14 years old, for which he served 11 years. As a result of this prior conviction, Burton faces a potential statutory imprisonment between 10 and 20 years.

The investigation that led to his conviction began in 2020, when law enforcement determined an IP address belonging to Burton out of Lincoln twice accessed a child pornography site. Burton’s sentencing hearing will take place on May 15, 2023. There is no parole in the federal system.
