Lincoln Animal Control rescued an injured hawk in northeast Lincoln Monday morning. Animal Control Manager Steve Beal says one of his officers found the large two year old red-tailed hawk inside a fenced parking area near 46th and Leighton.

“The animal control officer found what appeared to be about a two year old red-tailed hawk and it appeared he had a broken wing, couldn’t fly.”  Beal says the veteran officer was able to secure the bird.  “Which is sometimes difficult with wildlife, particularly when they are injured.”

The officer loaded up the hawk and took it to Raptor Recovery,  where it’s now receiving care and is expected to make a full recovery. Beal says they respond to about 750 wild-life related calls every year.
