The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department says an 18-year-old has been cited after a puppy was abandoned along a county road north of Lincoln Friday afternoon.
Deputies were sent to the intersection of 14th Street and McKelvie Road on a report of an abandoned dog around 11:30. “There was a puppy in a kennel, along with a leash and some other belongings,” says Sherriff Terry Wagner.
They put a picture of the Husky-Shepherd mix on social media to try and determine who left the dog out there. “A 16 year old young lady called in and it had been her dog and she determined she couldn’t care for it and had given it away to another female in Lincoln,” Wagner says.
Wagner says several hours later they tracked down the 18 year old woman. She was cited for animal abuse and littering. Zeus is now being cared for at the Capital Humane Society.
