Governor Jim Pillen announced today that he has appointed Jim Scheer to replace him as the District 3 Regent on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents. Pillen resigned his position following his election to the Nebraska governorship.
“Jim is a public servant who will work to grow the University of Nebraska,” said Pillen. “He believes in educational excellence, the importance of agriculture, and fiscal conservative leadership.”
From 2013 to 2021, Scheer represented District 19 in the Nebraska Legislature. He was elected Speaker of the Legislature in 2017. His experience in the world of education includes a stint on the Norfolk school board and a position on the Nebraska State Board of Education from 2004 to 2008. He was the board’s president in 2011 and 2012.
