A Lincoln man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for assaulting two federal law enforcement officers. Investigators say two deportation officers with the Department of Homeland Security had a warrant for 24 year old Balmore Hernandez-Castro’s arrest in July of 2021.
According to the U-S Attorney’s Office officers the officers saw Hernandez-Castro leave his home with another person, get into the passenger side of a car and drive away. The officers stopped the car a couple of blocks away from Hernandez-Castro’s home.
Investigators say Hernandez-Castro immediately began resisting arrest and refused to get out of the car. A struggle ensued and Hernandez-Castro punched, kicked, and bit the deportation officers. Several Lincoln Police officers responded to a 911 call for assistance. With the assistance of the additional officers Hernandez-Castro was finally arrested.
There is no parole in the federal system. After he completes his prison sentence, Hernandez-Castro will be deported to El Salvador.
