An 85 year old Lincoln woman lost tens of thousands of dollars after falling victim to an online scam. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says the woman received a pop-up notice on her computer from someone she didn’t know who was using her information to take part in online gaming.
“She called the provided number to correct the account,” Vollmer says she was then called by someone claiming to be from her bank. She was told to go to the bank to transfer $53,000 to a separate account based in California.
The caller then told the persons responsible could then be apprehended when they withdrawal from that account. The victim went to her bank and made the transfer.
The victim’s son was then made aware and is working with the victim’s bank to determine if the funds can be recovered.
