A house in eastern Lancaster County was completely destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says crews from Waverly, Ashland, Bennet, Eagle and Southeast Rural responded to the fire just west of Eagle around 2:20 p.m.
“It was totally engulfed. It was a total loss of $700,000,” Houchin says. The family that lived in the home made it out safely, but their pet dog died in the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal. Houchin says crews were sent back out to the house around 7:30 Monday morning after the fire reignited.
