A 33 year old Omaha woman is facing attempted murder and a weapons charge after a 69 year old man was stabbed near Waverly Friday morning. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says Haley Gaston was trying to steal the man’s car around 6:40 a.m. near N. 112th and Branched Oak Road.
He says they were both fighting when deputies arrived. “He had the knife and had her off to the side and we took her into custody at that point,” Houchin says.
Houchin says the man works at the location where the stabbing happened. “He arrived and was going to warm up his semi and when he got out she was trying to steal his car.”
He says the Gaston’s car was parked on the road in the area and they found alcohol and drugs inside. Houchin says Gaston has no known connection to the victim, who was stabbed twice in the arm and twice in the abdomen. “One of the wounds to the abdomen is very deep,” Houchin says.
The victim is being treated at a local hospital.
