A woman was killed and four other people were injured in a two vehicle crash Wednesday night on Highway 79 about four miles north of Prague. The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. according to the Saunders County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators say 20 year old Payton Pruett of Lincoln was northbound on Highway 79 when his Toyota Camry went into a ditch, overcorrected, crossed the centerline and struck a southbound Buick Regal.
The sheriff’s department the Buick came to rest on it’s top in the northbound lane of Highway 79. A woman who was riding in the front seat was pronounced dead at UNMC. The man who was driving is in the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Investigators say a three year old suffered life-threatening injuries and a six year old has non life-threatening injuries.
Their names have not been released pending notification of extended family. Pruett was alone in his vehicle and was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries. The sheriff’s department says seatbelt usage is still under investigation and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
