Increase In Demand Driving Gas Prices Higher

Nebraskans are paying more to fill up their vehicles.  AAA Nebraska’s Brian Ortner says a rise in fuel demand is one reason for the prices at the pump are up across the state and country.

“We appear to be taking advantage of the recent milder weather that we’ve seen in the nation by fueling up and hitting the road,”  Ortner says.  “That’s an increase in gas demand and the price of oil has gone up.”  The cost of oil hit $81 a barrel on Thursday.

Ortner says new gas taxes and fees that went into effect January 1 is also having an impact on the price at the pump.   The average price per gallon in Nebraska is currently $3.42, up 16 cents from last week.  A month ago pump prices were at $2.88 a gallon.

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline notched $3.44
