A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Lincoln area until 6:00 Thursday morning. Snow mixed with freezing rain is possible throughout the day Wednesday and will become all snow after 4 p.m.
The National Weather Service says snow accumulation of three to five inches is possible in Lincoln and additional accumulations are expected along I-80 and north of the Platte River.
Early Wednesday morning LTU Street crews completed the application of anti-ice brine to arterial streets, bus, and school routes to help prevent ice from building up on the streets.
Crews will remain on duty ready to respond to changing weather conditions and have their plows ready to hit the streets when the snow starts to fly. LTU Maintenance Operations Manager Tim Byrne is asking residents to help their snow plow drivers during the storm. “If you have the ability the park your car off street that’s always a help to the crews as they are able to come through your neighborhood much more efficiently.”
Byrne says they have contractors ready to assist with snow removal on the main streets and residential areas.
