Lack Of Snow Assisting LTU Crews With Pothole Repairs

By Tom Stanton Jan 13, 2023 | 3:56 PM

Lincoln streets should be less bumpy due to the lack of snow and ice this winter.  Lincoln Transportation and Utilities crews have been able to turn their attention away from plowing streets to fixing potholes.

LTU Maintenance Operations Manager Tim Byrne says they have made tremendous progress.  “Thus far this month we have repaired nearly 700 and if we look back since the first of September last year they have knocked out nearly 5,000 potholes.”

Byrne says not many of those craters were reported by Lincoln residents.  “Less than 200 were reported by citizens and the rest of them are potholes that crews had just proactively been filling as their out on their patrols.”

Byrne tells KLIN News that they have also done a lot of crack sealing work in recent years to keep moisture out and preventing potholes from forming. “And with the additional rehabilitation and resurfacing that we’ve been able to accomplish we’re fixing more roads and getting them in better shape to begin with.”

Lincoln residents who want to report potholes across the city can call the LTU office at 402-441-7701
