Fourth Trail-A-Thon Gives Lincoln Residents Year-Long Fitness

By Michael Wheeler Jan 13, 2023 | 12:47 PM

The Great Plains Trails Network (GPTN), headquartered in Lincoln, is bringing its fourth annual Trail-A-Thon to the city’s walkers and hikers. Residents have the opportunity to walk 12 routes encompassing 92 miles throughout the year.

Dena Noe, the Trail-A-Thon chair, tells KLIN News that while the year-long endeavor is loosely designed to be achieved on a one-trail-per-month basis, how and when participants walk the routes is completely up to them.

“It’s completely self-directed,” Noe said. “We’re not telling you we have to do it in any order. If you want to cram it all into the summer, that works great, too.”

The cost of participating is $25 for anyone 19 and older. Those six to 18 will pay $10, and all proceeds go toward building more trails in Lincoln. There are perks along the way, too. Upon signing up, residents taking part will receive a free pair of socks from the GPTN. They’ll receive another pair of socks after completing half of the trails. Anyone who completes all 12 routes by Dec. 31 will be put in a lottery to win a prize worth $100.
