Two men were killed when their plane crashed near Auburn late Wednesday night. The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office says the plane left Lincoln for Auburn and was scheduled to return to Lincoln.

The sheriff’s office says they found the wreckage around 11 p.m. about a mile south of the Auburn airport. The men killed are identified as 24 year old Colton Hill of Kearney and 41 year old Dustin Biegler of Valparaiso.

Hill was a 2022 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  He was an aviation student and a pitcher on the baseball team.  “The UNK family offers our heartfelt condolences to Colton’s family and friends,” the university said in a statement.  “Colton was a visible member of our campus and the Kearney and UNK Aviation communities. He will be missed. We are saddened and share in your grieving.”

The FAA and NTSB will investigate the crash.
