After their worst outing of the season on Saturday at Rutgers, Nebraska women’s basketball righted the ship with a dominating performance Wednesday night.

The Huskers (11-6, 3-3 Big Ten) handled Penn State (11-6, 2-4 Big Ten) 80-51 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The victory is the 300th career head coaching win for Amy Williams.

Penn State kept the game in doubt for the first five minutes, only trailing by one with 4:37 to go in the first quarter. Nebraska then ran off a 12-2 run.

That lead would stretch as far as 21 points in the second quarter and 34 points in the second half before the Huskers ultimately won the game.

After missing their first 21 three-pointers at Rutgers and finishing 2-for-25, Nebraska went 13-of-28. The final three-pointer came from half-court just before the final buzzer when Kendall Moriarty threw the ball at the rim to simply run out the shot clock, except that it went in.

On Australia night, the pair of Husker Aussies had special moments.

Jaz Shelley finished with 10 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds, nearly notching her first triple-double of the season.

Issie Bourne added 10 points, with her last basket pushing her past the 1,000-point mark in her career. She’s just the 34th Nebraska women’s basketball player to cross that threshold and 22nd to reach 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

As for the Americans, Callin Hake and Maddie Krull led the way in scoring. Hake made four 3s as part of her game-high 16 points. Krull added a trio of triples on her way to 14 points.

Alexis Markowski notched her seventh double-double of the year with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Sam Haiby filled up the stat sheet with seven points, six rebounds, and four assists.

An issue that has plagued the Huskers turned up again. NU had 22 turnovers in the game, leading to 24 Penn State points.

Nebraska hosts No. 3 Ohio State (17-0, 6-0 Big Ten) Saturday.
