Lincoln police spent several hours negotiating with a man who had reportedly threatened people with a gun around Tuesday afternoon. Officers were 9th and Washington around 4:15 p.m.
LPD Sergeant Chris Vollmer says a woman called police and said a man had threatened her with a handgun during a dispute over a parking space.
“Arriving officers observed a male matching the provided description on a second-floor balcony of the 4 plex, but he fled inside an apartment when confronted by officers,” Vollmer says.
He says they were able to identify the man as 34-year-old Jeffrey Howard. “It was further determined two children of an acquaintance, 10 and 7, were also inside the apartment with Howard.”
Officers continued efforts to communicate with Howard for three hours. He finally came out of the apartment at 8:30 p.m. with the children and was taken into custody. The children was returned to their mother and no one was hurt.
Howard was taken to jail and booked for false imprisonment, terroristic threats and resisting arrest.
