There were a record number of restaurant openings in Lincoln in 2022. “We surprisingly had way more openings than closings,” Grow Lincoln co-host Dave Albers told LNK Today. “Our average, since we’ve been doing this, is 29 closes and 31.3 openings.”
70 percent of the 37 new restaurants are locally owned. Grow Lincoln co-host Robin Eschliman says food trucks and coffee shops were not included in the new openings. “What we counted is restaurants where it appears their menu or their revenue is primarily derived from food and they do at least two meals a day.”
She says there were more restaurants that opened north of ‘O’ Street in 2022, which continues a trend from the past two years. There were 26 restaurants that closed their doors for good last year.
