The capital’s annual “Lincoln on the Move” report dropped on Dec. 13. At a press conference, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird outlined some of the key takeaways.
“This annual report showcases additional street investments of nearly $17 million that enabled 15 street projects across all quadrants of our city,” said Mayor Gaylor Baird. “And that work, completed this past year, builds on the success of progress made by the ‘Lincoln on the Move’ initiative since it began in 2019.”
The program, approved by voters in 2019, is a six-year-long initiative to improve the efficiency of Lincoln’s streets. Over the course of six years, from Dec. 2019 to Sept. 2025, over $94 million is expected to be invested into it in total.
“Through the first three years, ‘Lincoln on the Move’ has invested $42 million dollars into our streets,” said Mayor Gaylor Baird.
According to the full report, 73.5 percent of funding has gone toward improvements to existing streets, 25 percent has gone to growth projects, and 1.5 percent is being used jointly with the Railroad Transportation Safety District.
“As we look back on where we were three years ago to where we are today,” began Director of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Liz Elliot, “we see accelerated progress and major investments into Lincoln’s infrastructure, in our neighborhoods, in our arterial streets, and in growth areas of Lincoln.
Our transportation team is thrilled to continue to hit the gas pedal as we continue to make significant strides to improve and grow Lincoln’s streets through this program.”
