Nebrasketball Upsets No. 7 Creighton

The signature win of the Fred Hoiberg era is here.

Nebraska men’s basketball upset No. 7 Creighton 63-53 Sunday afternoon in Omaha. This is the fifth top-10 road win in program history and second under Hoiberg. The last one came at No. 10 Wisconsin last season.

The Huskers entered the game as 14.5 point underdogs, so never letting the Bluejays get too far in front was imperative. At halftime, NU led by two and only trailed by as much as four in the first half.

Then Big Red made its move.

The Huskers held Creighton without a point for the first 3:29 of the second half. The Bluejays went multiple three minutes stretches of not scoring.

Despite its own six minute scoring drought, Nebraska slowly pulled away for a double-digit lead and held Creighton off down the stretch for the upset.

Nebraska shot 47.5 percent from the floor, including 3-of-12 on three-pointers. The Huskers out-rebounded their in-state rival 42-37 and committed three less turnovers in the game.

Derrick Walker led the Husker scoring with 22 points to go with eight rebounds. Sam Griesel added a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds on top of seven assists.

The Huskers have now beaten three straight Power 6 opponents to improve to 6-3 on the year.

Nebraska stays on the road Wednesday to open Big Ten Conference play at No. 10 Indiana.
