Southeast Community College Moving, Expanding Athletics

By Michael Wheeler Dec 2, 2022 | 2:37 PM

SCC student-athletes will have a richer choice of options for athletics at the start of the next school year. Plans are in motion to more than double the current number of teams, and squads will be based in Lincoln and Milford campuses in addition to the existing Beatrice one. Brett Bright, SCC athletic director and executive director of the Beatrice campus, says this will greatly increase student participation in intercollegiate sports.

“We’ll be increasing our student-athlete participation from 160 to close to 400,” said Bright.

At the moment, SCC has 10 sports from which to choose, which are spread out evenly between men and women. The men take part in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, and soccer. The women’s program replaces baseball and golf with softball and volleyball. New sports will include men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s wrestling, men’s volleyball, and women’s golf. E-sports, rodeo, and trap will also make their debuts, and they’ll be coed.

While most sports are likely to begin in the fall of 2023, men’s volleyball and men’s and women’s tennis may be delayed until the following year.

Below is a roundup of which campus will feature specific sports:

Beatrice: Baseball, E-sports, men’s and women’s golf, rodeo, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, trap, men’s and women’s wrestling

Lincoln: Men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, E-sports, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field

Milford: E-sports, men’s and women’ volleyball

Students who would like to participate in the programs need to fill out an Athletic Prospect Form.
