Two Teens Caught After Running From Stolen Vehicle

By Tom Stanton Nov 29, 2022 | 11:29 AM

A 16 and 14 year old are facing charges after Lincoln Police say they ran from a stolen vehicle that had pulled into a parking lot at Lincoln High School Monday morning.

Captain Todd Kocian says the owner of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra had left it running and unlocked in the parking lot of the EZ GO at 25th and O Street Sunday evening while he went inside.

At 10:15 Monday morning an officer saw the vehicle drive through the U-STOP parking lot at 21st and K Street.  As the officer confirmed the license plate was that of the stolen vehicle, it was observed pulling into the north parking lot of the high school.

Kocian says as the officers made contact with the vehicle, three people got out and ran.  “After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended the 16 year old boy in the 400 block of S 25th.”  He was arrested for theft by receiving stolen property, obstructing a police officer and possession of marijuana.

He was booked into the Youth Assessment Center.  The 14 year old was contacted later in the day and referred for theft by receiving stolen property and obstructing a police officer. He was turned over to a family member.

Police continue to try and locate the third person who fled from the vehicle.
