The Cornhuskers spent the morning before Thanksgiving Day giving back to the community by visiting patients in hospitals throughout the city. Players saw infants, said hello to the babies’ parents, and shared chats with elderly patients who have been long-time fans.

The father of an infant being cared for at Bryan East spoke to KLIN News and said the experience brought joy to both him and his partner. “It’s a pretty awesome feeling,” he said. “Love it.”

In fact, it is the smiles that come across people’s faces that the players love best about these visits. Cornerback Darius Moore told KLIN News, “It’s definitely something great to give back to the community,” said Moore. “They’re always there for us, so it really feels good to just give back.”

Moore’s teammate, cornerback Quinton Newsome, was also glad to be making the rounds. Newsome told KLIN News, “To me, it’s just all about giving back to these people we have out here in Nebraska. They always show us love, no matter what.

We just want to put a smile on their face and make them have a better day.”

Safety Myles Farmer was also one of the Huskers who visited Bryan East, and he sympathized with patients unable to be with family for Thanksgiving Day. “It means a lot,” said Farmer. “Most of the patients we’ve just seen, I know how they feel. Thanksgiving’s coming up. For the past four years, I haven’t been able to be with my family because of playing football.

“They’re in the hospital right now, so some of them may not be able to be with their families, so it means a lot just coming in here, making their day, getting them to smile or laugh, chuckle, hold a conversation with them. I’m happy we came. I’m happy they put this into our schedule.”
