You will likely see additional Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies on the roads this week as part of the the ‘Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every Time’ enforcement campaign to promote awareness and increase the use of seatbelts and child restraint systems.
Sheriff Terry Wagner says it will begin on Wednesday with a high visibility safety checkpoint from 3-8 p.m. It will will be set up on Highway 6 just west 98th Street.
“Vehicles will be selected in a systematic fashion and checked to make sure all the proper documentation is in the vehicle and that all occupants are properly restrained.” Following the checkpoint, from 8:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. additional deputies, in marked patrol cars, will monitor traffic on an individual basis watching for traffic law violations.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will also be conducting saturation patrols throughout the weekend by increasing the number of deputies enforcing traffic law violations. Additional deputies will be on patrol from Friday through Sunday.
Overtime for the additional deputies working during the mobilization will be paid through a mini grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
