28 dogs that were found living in unsanitary conditions at a home near Malcolm on Tuesday are now being cared for at the Capital Humane Society. Many of the dogs were covered in feces and urine with matted fur.
The Humane Society says most of the dogs were confined to crates & cages too small and in some cases there were multiple dogs in each crate. The dogs are primarily Miniature and Standard Poodles, but there are several other breeds as well
In a social media post the shelter said “at this time they are resting comfortably in our care and have been examined by our veterinary team. We are working on lining up grooming for all of the dogs too.”
Executive Director Matt Madcharo tells KLIN News at this time they are not available for adoption. “Right now they are being held as part of the investigation and if we are able to take ownership of them and get them up for adoption sooner than later we will let the public know.”
If you would like to help these dogs consider donating supplies, like dog food, treats, hard plastic or rubber toys, towels and bedding. The daily cost to care for the dogs is over $500 a day.
Monetary donations are also being accepted. The money helps with the cost of grooming, food, and veterinary care for them. The shelter has received a lot of animals recently and need to find good homes for them. Now through December 4th they are reducing adoption fees on all dogs and cats five months and older by 50 percent.
