Nebraska Women’s Basketball Opens Up Season With Big Win against Omaha

By Matt McMaster Nov 7, 2022 | 3:49 PM

No. 22 Nebraska women’s basketball opened the season with a dominant 100-36 win against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Monday.

Much like last week’s exhibition, the Huskers came out of the gates hot, going on a 12-0 run in the game’s first four minutes. NU would never look back in part to their defense which was, stifling. Nebraska forced 19 turnovers and held the mavericks to 21.2 percent from the field.

Issie Bourne led all scorers with 21 points. She tied Allison Weidner for the rebounding lead with nine.

Nebraska dominated the inside, scoring exactly half of their points from the paint.  Nebraska’s excellent play in the paint opened up the three-point line as, for the first time in team history, every player suited up for Nebraska hit a three-pointer. South Dakota transfer Maddie Krull led Nebraska, shooting 4-of-6 from the arc while tallying a total of 18 points for the Huskers. It was also the first time the team ever scored 100 points without taking a free throw.

After the game Head Coach, Amy Williams said she wants the team’s offensive Identity to be able to change depending on the flow of the game.

“My hope is that we’ll be able to do whatever the game warrants,” Williams said “That’s what our goal would be, is to continue to have that versatility to be able to do whatever we have to do to win.”

Nebraska’s next game is this Friday at Pinnacle Bank Arena against Houston Christian.
