The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is inviting residents to join them for the annual “Put the Beds to Bed” event at Sunken Gardens on Saturday morning.
“It’s a group event where we turn all the soil and get the beds prepped for next year with additional compost on top,” says Zac Halley, Public Gardens Volunteer Coordinator for the City.
Registration is not required and there is no limit to the number of volunteers who can help. Residents wishing to help are asked to bring gloves, a shovel or spade, and dress in layered clothing, including heavy-soled shoes.
Halley says volunteers 13 years of age and older are welcome and breakfast and lunch will be served. In case of bad weather, the event will be rescheduled for Saturday, November 12.
