Autumn Weather Falls to Cold Front

By Michael Wheeler Nov 3, 2022 | 2:36 PM

They say you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and it’s likely that Nebraskans will be feeling that way in the immediate future. Whereas the last two weeks have seen residents enjoying a fall in the 60s into the 80s, a series of storms on the night of Nov. 3 and a resulting cold front could change things quickly. Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist Rusty Dawkins spoke with KLIN News about the cold reality Nebraskans may soon face.

Dawkins says an incoming cold front, which is resulting in winter weather advisories in the western half of the state, is going to give the capital a chance for some storms late Thursday night going into Friday morning. Some of the storms could be on the strong – even severe – side of things.

“And then cold air rushes in,” says Dawkins. “We go from 70s today – middle 70s – to the potential of only seeing the lower 40s tomorrow afternoon. So, that’s a 30-to-35-degree difference. You’re definitely going to feel it. The wind is going to continue, probably not as strong, but it’ll be out of the north instead of the south. So, this is just a really big 180: going from early fall kind of temperatures and feel to an early winter kind of feel.”

Speaking of winter, the capital may even see a bit of snow in the early parts of Saturday morning before the temperatures warm up again. Although unlikely to accumulate, the western portion of Nebraska may see two to four inches.
