Officers responded to an alarm at Casey’s Convenience Store on 40th and Adams in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 2. Police saw security footage that showed a city Parks and Recreation pickup truck pulling into the store’s parking lot followed by a passenger getting out of the truck and striking the front door with a metal bar. The perpetrator then got back into the truck, which then went eastbound on Adams Street. No damage was observed to Casey’s.
It appears the truck was stolen from the parking lot of the Pioneers Park maintenance facility. It was shortly before 7 AM that police responded to a burglary call from the location, where an employee reported the missing truck: a white 2019 Ford F-250. LPD Captain Todd Kocian says the suspect or suspects forced their way into the office and found the keys to the missing pickup.
“Once inside, the suspects rummaged through an office eventually locating the keys to the missing pickup. Damage to the building estimated at $255.” The pickup has a city government license plate reading “35577” on it. It is valued at $30,000.
Both investigations are underway. Anyone with information is encouraged to call LPD at 402-441-6000 or, for anonymity, Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
