The Nebraska Hospital Association recently released a ‘Throughput Survey Report’ showing many Nebraska hospitals with patients ready to be discharged but no where to go for recovery or rehab.  The situation has caused some situations where hospitals have had to keep patients in ERs for hours waiting for an in-patient bed and others having to curtail some procedures that would require an overnight stay.

NHA President Jeremy Nordquist said, “Placing patients in an appropriate post-acute setting is a serious issue, both for the health care of our patients and for our hospitals’ capacity as well.  If understaffed hospitals cannot transition patients to the appropriate level of care, critical health care services may be restricted for Nebraskans.”

Nordquist told KLIN News there were over 200 patients in Nebraska hospitals in October that were awaiting discharge to post-acute facilities.
