Just a couple days after retaking the top spot in the AVCA Coaches Poll, No. 1 Nebraska has fallen.
The Huskers had flashes of brilliance, including a 10-1 run in the second set, but couldn’t hold off being swept in Madison by No. 5 Wisconsin 25-23, 23, 18. That gives the Badgers now nine consecutive victories in the series.
Nebraska hit below .200 for just the fifth time this season, notching a .162 compared to Wisconsin’s .207. Part of the hitting woes were the errors committed (18), but also the home team’s ability to do what Nebraska has been known for: doing anything possible to keep the ball from hitting the floor.
Defensively, there was no answer for Badger Sarah Franklin, who had 21 kills on .381 hitting.
The Huskers also didn’t help themselves at the service line. Kenzie Knuckles notches the only ace for Big Red while the team combined for seven service errors.
Despite the difficulties on the night, two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week Bekka Allick shined. Allick had a team-high 13 kills on .647 hitting.
Nebraska will regroup before hosting Maryland Saturday.
