The public was advised to avoid the area and displaced residents were asked not to return home.

According to a news release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office, 3 residences were lost. Farmers were asked to turn on center pivot irrigation systems.

Lincoln Southwest High School was the evacuation center where residents received assistance from the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

One firefighter suffered serious injuries and another suffered minor injuries. An update is expected at this morning’s media briefing.

Norris Schools will start 2-hours late.

The photos from KLIN’s Chris Lofgreen shows a central pivot irrigation system activated and a tractor-trailer with a dozer that was available to help create fire lines.  The headline photo shows a local farmer discing a fire line in corn stubble.
