A traffic stop on I-80 in Lancaster County Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of an Omaha man and the discovery of nearly 60,000 fentanyl pills. Sheriff Terry Wagner says around 2:45 p.m. deputies stopped a westbound vehicle for speeding near the NW 48th Street exit.

“The driver consented to a search of the vehicle and a backpack containing 13.2 pounds of fentanyl was discovered in the vehicle,”  Wagner says.  “The pills were marked “M30″ which are fentanyl pills masked as Oxycontin pills.”

Wagner says the total value of the pills is over $1 million and one pill contains enough fentanyl to provide 10 lethal doses.  39 year old Luis Salazar was arrested and booked into jail for possession with intent to deliver narcotics.  Wagner says Salazar is an illegal immigrant who has previously been deported from the U.S.

The investigation determined that Salazar was headed to to York when he was stopped.
