A 33 year old man was arrested after Lincoln Police say he assaulted an officer around 4:15 Tuesday afternoon. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says the officer stopped a vehicle with expired registration in the 900 block of S. 14th Street and learned that Raymond Palmer had a suspended drivers license

He says Palmer stopped and got out of the vehicle. “He attempted to backpedal away from the officer after he was advised his drivers license was suspended,” Vollmer says.  “The officer attempted to take Palmer into custody and a struggle ensued that continued to the ground.”

Vollmer says Palmer struck the officer in the face with the back of  his head and Palmer was able to get to his feet. The officer tried  to use a taser on Palmer, but  it was unsuccessful and he fled on foot.

The officer caught up to Palmer near 18th and D Street and, with the assistance of additional officers, Palmer was taken into custody.  He was booekd into jail for assault on an officer.  He was also cited for obstructing a police officer, driving under suspension and no valid registration.

The officer did not require medical treatment.
