Three Foot Long Pet Lizard Bites Bennet Child

By Tom Stanton Oct 11, 2022 | 11:12 AM

An 11 month old Bennet girl received two stitches in her right arm after a three foot long pet lizard bit the child on Monday night. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the nearly 15 pound Tegu lizard lived in the basement of the home.

“It somehow escaped it’s cage and got through a dog gate at the bottom of the steps,” Houchin says.  He says the lizard then climbed the steps. “The mother was upstairs working and the 11 month old was on the floor and the mother started to hear the baby cry.”

Houchin says the mother saw the lizard biting the child’s arms and legs. The parents were able to lock the lizard into a bathroom and they took their daughter to the hospital.

Having the lizard did not violate any ordinances so no charges will be filed.  Houchin says the family is in the process of removing the lizard from their home.
