The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning to southeastern Nebraska, including Lincoln and Lancaster County. Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist Rusty Dawkins spoke with KLIN News and said that although it’s early in the fall season, freezing temperatures are not unusual.
“It’s dead-on normal,” said Dawkins. “October 7th is the actual date that we typically see, on average, the first freeze of the year, so this is as normal as normal gets.”
Dawkins continued, saying that Lincoln could experience a killing freeze, a period of about three hours with freezing temperatures.
“Inside the city, it can stay a little warmer than the outskirts. Things get colder when there’s not a lot of cement or buildings to keep things just a touch warmer. So, it’ll depend, but it’s going to be close.”
As for Friday’s local high school football games, Dawkins recommends a hoodie and jeans to start. By the end of any games, those in attendance may need a coat.
