Stan Parker Announces Bid for Mayor

By Michael Wheeler Oct 5, 2022 | 2:20 PM

Former Husker Stan Parker announced his bid for mayor on Wednesday in the spring 2023 election. “My decision to run for mayor,” began Parker, “is built upon my deep appreciation for the ideals our country was founded upon and a clear understanding that our ability to thrive is significantly defined and outlined by the decisions and policies of those we choose to put into office. I believe the role of mayor, while having political aspects, is first and foremost a leadership position.”

Parker has prided himself on his leadership since he began his UNL football career in 1982 under Coach Tom Osborne. Since his football days, he has been the executive director of MyBridge Radio, which broadcasts Christian radio across the state. He also operates nonprofit leadership teams within the MyBridge network and a coaching business. “If you’re primarily looking for a politician for your next mayor, I’m not your guy,” said Parker. If you want a leader, I believe I’m a pretty compelling choice.”

Parker did not specifically outline his platform or agenda, but he did let it be known that he is keeping multiple things in mind. “We’re gonna be rolling that out over the next several weeks in depth, but it’s all gonna hang on the acrostic of Lincoln: L-I-N-C-O-L-N. Leadership, integrity, Nebraska, collaboration, opportunity, law enforcement, and neighbors.”
