No. 3 Nebraska Volleyball Fights Off No. 7 Ohio State in Five Sets

By Kaleb Henry Sep 24, 2022 | 10:36 PM

Win No. 801 was a bit more difficult than the milestone victory the night before for Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook.

“Well, it was an interesting match,” Cook opened with at his postgame press conference. “801’s a lot better than 800, I’ll tell you that.”

No. 3 Nebraska (10-1, 2-0 Big Ten) had to fight to stay unblemished in Big Ten play for the 25-22, 24-26, 19-25, 25-20, 15-13 win over No. 7 Ohio State (5-5, 1-1 Big Ten) Saturday night. The victory gives the Huskers four wins over current teams in the AVCA Top 25.

Errors played a big part on how the night unfolded. Ohio State committed 55 errors, including 20 at the service line. Nebraska had just 37, with 15 coming from serves.

That difference in errors helped the Huskers come out on top despite the Buckeyes outhitting the home team .151 to .140.

Nebraska’s defense was also stout, with 15 blocks on the night. Freshman Bekka Allick led the way with a match-high eight.

Kennedi Orr led the team with 20 assists while Anni Evans had 18.

Madi Kubik put down 16 kills. Lindsay Krause was next with nine.

Lexi Rodriguez had a match-high 19 digs. Rodriguez also notched her first kill of the season on an overpass that landed on the line after just crossing the net. That gives her two kills in her career.

The next four matches are all on the road, beginning at Rutgers Friday.
