The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department invites residents to participate in a survey regarding interest in mountain biking facilities in Lincoln.  Survey data will be used as initial input for a Mountain Bike Facility Master Plan.

Sara Hartzell with the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department says those plans are typically developed to determine the desired level of service for the community and suitable locations for future facilities. “Get an idea of what kind of facilities are people looking for.  Are they traveling outside the community to get to those facilities.”

She says three years ago a track was built at Van Dorn Park and has been well received.  “We’re getting not only a lot more people interested in that mountain bike trail but we have people that walk on that trail and also we have a lot more people visiting the playground.”

Through the survey Hartzell says they want to find out if they should be looking at locations where other recreational opportunities already exist, including playgrounds, ballfields and fishing.

Parks and Recreation plans to assemble of a community group that will assist in development of the master plan. Additional community outreach is planned for the fall and winter.

Previous master plans have been completed for Dog Use Facilities, Wilderness Park User Experience, Outdoor Inclusive Play, and Outdoor Racket Court Facilities.
