The Seward County Sheriff’s Department were called to the area of 294th and Bluff Road around 2:30 Sunday afternoon on a report of an explosive device being found.
Investigators say two juveniles walking down the riverbank found a hand grenade near the edge of the river. The responding deputies requested assistance by the Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad.
A trooper determined it was a live fragmentation grenade. The NSP Bomb Squad safely detonated the grenade at the scene. The Seward County Sheriff’s Office says anyone who comes in contact with unexploded device should contact the nearest police agency and leave the item
untouched.
