University of Nebraska total enrollment across all four campuses and the College of Technical Agriculture dropped 2.2% from last year according to data released today.

Key workforce areas grew including agriculture, public health, allied health and engineering.  The UNL College of Engineering grew 7% and first-time freshmen enrollment grew in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.  The number of first-time freshmen enrolled in UNK’s health sciences program is up 14%.

“I think what we’re seeing is students are telling us what types of programs they want to get into because they’re pre-selecting their careers” said President Ted Carter.  He told KLIN News, “We should be paying attention to that, making sure our offerings have enough room for growth in some of those careers.”

Carter confirmed the Board of Regents had approved the recent budget which reflected the expected drop in enrollment.
