A special blood drive to honor fallen Lincoln Police Investigator Mario Herrera will be held Friday. It’s part of the “12 Days of Hope” and will be located at LFR’s Station at 6601 Pine Lake Road.
Herrera was shot in the line of duty on August 26, 2020 and survived for twelve days thanks to blood donations from the Lincoln Community. “Our community rallied and came together for him and his family and Lincoln Police Department and showed how much they cared.”
While Herrera ultimately lost his life, access to donated blood gave his family 12 extra days to spend with him. The 12 Days of Hope Campaign encourages Nebraskans to donate blood on August 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Lundeen says there are time slots available. To register for an appointment go to NCBB.org. The Lincoln Police Department will also hold a blood drive on on September 7, the anniversary of Herrera’s death.
