Lincoln Police got a call from a woman late Thursday night who said she had been scammed out of thousands of dollars. “The victim reported
receiving a call from a party identifying themselves as a member of the Lincoln Police Department,” says Sergeant Chris Vollmer.  “The
caller claimed the victim missed a subpoena and had the option of facing criminal penalties or pay a $6,000 fine.

The victim was instructed to pay the fine with gift cards.   Vollmer says she followed the instructions to purchase the cards.  While purchasing some of the gift cards a store clerk informed the victim they she was likely involved in a scam. The total loss is reported at $4,500.

Vollmer reminds residents that LPD does not accept payments for anything and no legitimate government office receives payment via gift card.
