An arrest has been made in an incident earlier this month where an LPD bike patrol officer was struck by a motorcycle.   Sergeant Chris Vollmer says Alexander Nelson was arrested just after 11:00 Thursday night as he was leaving work.

On August 11 police say a green racing style motorcycle with green under glow lights was seen speeding.  The motorcycle continued northbound on Centennial Mall and drove up onto the west sidewalk between P and Q Streets.

There were two LPD bike patrol officers traveling southbound on that same sidewalk. The motorcycle first slowed and turned the handlebars as if to try to go around the officers. Instead, LPD says it rapidly accelerated toward the officers. One was struck and knocked to the ground. The motorcycle then took off eastbound on P Street at a high rate of speed.

The officer had minor injuries to his left hand, leg, and shoulder.  Vollmer says the motorcycle has been recovered.  It had been spray painted and sold to someone else.

Nelson was booked into jail for second degree assault of an officer, operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and tempering with evidence.
